I’ve always felt something is missing when I look at the weather forecast. Even my own creations of MatService and Skywatch… they are just numbers and dials – not experiences. So I’m experimenting on what it will feel like to look at the weather, not just see the values and numbers.
The idea
You can spin through time and watch the sky change based on where the sun is, what the sky will look like and the amount of light seeping through the clouds. Not only that, but the amount of clouds change as the conditions change… it’s pretty neat. Even if you want to know what it’s like at night – just give it a scroll and see. I decdied to remove the moon though, as it was a bit confusing as it’s hard to render the moon in shapes and colours (and it just looked like the sun!)
The data
Weather via Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0), which means it’s free and open source and your location is used only to fetch the forecast in the browser and not stored my the site.
What’s next
I want to push the atmosphere further, but depends on the feedback I get from people. For now though, just give it a spin and let me know!
