Instagram launches new ‘Teen Accounts’

Instagram has just rolled out something called ‘Teen Accounts’ across Australia, the UK, USA and Canada and I’m not sure what I think about this bold move.

Meta has crafted and protected this new experience for teens, packed with parental controls – which we can only assume is a good thing – but my thoughts keep on going back to keeping teens using their devices more, to which education institutions and many families are trying to reduce.

It’s a good step forwards into this 100% connected world, but what are your thoughts?

The accounts include the following features:

→ Default ON security settings for all under 18s
→ Active approval for any new followers
→ Only this list of approved followers can see the content
→ Settings can only be modified for those aged 13 to 15 can only with the addition of a parent or guardian to their accounts

So, do we need yet another reason for kids to be on a device? Would love to hear from parents and Insta users alike.
