A decade long experiment with unintended climate consequences

A decade long experiment with unintended climate consequences has just happened…

Remember seeing those graphs with the sea temperatures rising in the North Atlantic going crazy in 2023… well here’s the science based most rational reason why:

Regulations imposed by the UN’s International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2020 was an awesome move. It cut the sulfur pollution caused by huge tankers which we employ to globalise trade across the world. It cut it so well that it dropped by more than 80% and has improved air quality across all continents.

What a win for the environment! 🌏 Yet…

As the volume of sulfate particles has reduced due to the policy, this in turn has also reduced the number of particles in the atmosphere that were seeding and brightening the low-lying, reflective clouds that were produced by the ships crossing the vast oceans.

These cloud formations were actually helping to cool the planet and shield the sun from the ocean.

With these clouds now gone we have actually witnessed over the past 6-12 months an acute rise in sea surface temperatures, was more than we had actually been measuring… we’ve basically been shielding the real problem with another layer of man made air pollution.

What a wild experiment. The next few months and years are going to be VERY interesting to see if the data continues to keep rising.

Don’t take my word for it, examine it for yourself…
